…On this rock I will build my church… Matthew 16:18
OUR HISTORY
The City of Gaffney was only three years old when a few faithful Presbyterians in the community decided to request of the South Carolina Presbytery that a church be founded here. Limestone Presbyterian Church was founded in Gaffney in 1877. As Gaffney grew, so did Limestone Church. The new congregation bought property on the corner of S. Limestone and S. Petty Street and built a red brick church, providing space needed for worship and Christian education. The current sanctuary and educational space was built in 1955. Then the Family Life Center was added in 2012.
Not only have our members worshiped at Limestone Presbyterian Church, but we have also faithfully served others in our community. Our church was influential in starting a local Meals on Wheels (a program to serve meals to shut-ins) and the Peach Center Ministries (a consortium of churches providing relief for disadvantaged families in Cherokee County). We serve locally, regionally, and around the world through mission opportunities.
At the celebration of our 125th Anniversary, the Rev. Dan Youngblood reflected, “Most of all, [its history] is a story of grateful members striving to do God’s will by loving Him with all our hearts, minds and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves.”
